Please Note: We keep having strong complaints from our processing laboratory about the quality of the containers in which the tissues are submitted for histology. Please avoid unnecessary delays. Our processing laboratory will not receive samples if they are in:
-a bottle with a narrow neck from which the already fixed tissue cannot be taken out without breaking the bottle
-food or vitamin containers, (yes!, no Gefilte fish, and no humus or cottage cheese containers), which always spill and ruin the paperwork and accompanying samples
-syringes
-containers in which the tissue is too large and does not allow space for formalin or closure of the container itself. They will spill!
Remember, formalin is highly toxic and classified by the IARC as a known human carcinogen. It should not spill while being transported or handled prior to histological processing.
